Zombie lecture at Chicagoland college…

On Monday evening, Oct 27th, suburban Palatine’s Harper College will host Max Brooks, son of Mel Brooks (but don’t hold that against him) and author of the Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z, who will lecture on “of the top 10 lessons in surviving a zombie attack including the ideal outfits to wear, the best weaponry to use, and a general understanding of zombies.”

Tickets are $10.  Further info here.

The ‘Zombie Survival Guide’ was one of the worst (and least funny) books it has ever been my misfortune to read. Could someone please attend this event and hurl a tomato at Mr. Brooks for me, please?

  • Wait, are you telling me the son of MEL BROOKS could be unfunny?!

Actually, I’m sure he doesn’t fear zombies as much as people who show up with their home-written ‘screenplays’ they want him to slip to his father.

In its defense, The Zombie Survival Guide is written almost exactly like some conspiracy theorists’ guide to surviving the impending Illuminati takeover – you know, the kind written with an urgency that you seldom hear outside of an Art Bell interview.

I’ll admit that it was a bit of a slog (not being too conspiratorial minded – except when it comes to High Def TV; I know the government’s sending subliminal signals to me), especially after reading World War Z. It had it’s moments, though. In the right hands, some of the stories in there (& in World War Z) would make a pretty awesome movie.

I’m not holding my breath for that, though.
