Spot sale on Family Guy set…

Not really my bag; the show is certainly funny at times, but its increasing reach for the lazy gross out or ‘shock’ gag in lieu of actual, you know, humor, is irksome. And it never has been nearly as brave or even handed in its goring of sacred cows as South Park. Also, many of the jokes are of the “hey, remember this?” variety, which again is a sign of laziness.

(Still, as bad as can be, it’s a hundred times better than American Dad.)

It has it’s fans, though, obviously. And it’s hard to argue with over 100 episodes from the first six seasons on 22 discs, for a total of about 43 hours of material.

Oh, and the discs sit inside a huge, plastic Stewie head.

Today it’s selling for $75, or $95 bucks off the MSRP.

The discs I could take or leave, but a giant plastic Stewie head! Who can resist?

  • Mr. Rational

    Creepiest. Product. Ever.

  • That Stewie head is horrifying. It’s like he staring directly into my soul and sneering with contempt at what he sees.

  • I much prefer Family Guy to South Park. For one, it employs actual animation. Two, every single character in Family Guy isn’t a mouthpiece for one person and their rhetoric. South Park is perhaps the least even-handed show I’ve ever seen, and as far as gross-out goes, they don’t skimp on the giant piles of feces, that’s for sure. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no comparison between FG and SP. And South Park will batter one lousy joke for an entire episode, then act like FG is the nadir of television. Geez.

  • Matty — I’m not a fan of either show–I agree, SP, like FG, relies way too heavily on gross out humor. But seriously, you think Family Guy is even handed? Let me put it this way: Now that Obama is president, which show do you think is more likely to go after him with as much fervor as they went after Bush? I’d put my money on SP.

Ken, I can’t… just… don’t do this. Please. You’re so much better than this. I know you have better taste. You HAVE to have better taste than this.
