The Invaders S1: An old sci-fi series from the ’60s hits disc. Roy Thinnes is the only human aware that human-appearing alien invaders are taking over the earth. Basically another knock-off of The Fugitive, as Thinnes travels around trying to stymie the aliens while avoiding being killed or captured by them.
Meanwhile, I personally always kind of enjoyed the Naive Canadian Mountie in Chicago series Due South. The Due South Ultimate Collection is a great deal, collecting 3 years’ worth of 65 episodes for under $30 at many dealers. Not the greatest thing ever, but a nice show. (Amazon sells this for quite a bit more than a lot of places, so no link.)
The disc of the week is a remastered rerelease of the fun schlock classic The Car. Ah, I remember seeing that at the Pickwick Theatre as a lad. Amazingly, they haven’t remade this yet, nor made the obvious sequel, “The Car II: The Repossession.” Sadly lacking in any extras, like a James Brolin commentary, but supposedly the presentation is quite spiffy.
Cave Women on Mars is another mock ’50s sci-fi homage/spoof, the third made by the folks behind the just OK Monster of Phantom Lake. Maybe they’re getting better as they go along. I hope so, you’d like to support this sort of thing. [UPDATE: It seems the general release date was pushed back to the 20th. I’ll relist the film then. In the meantime, this and the two previous films can be purchased directly at the production company’s website, and the first two, Monster of Phantom Lake and It Came from Another World, are available for rental via Netflix. Apologies to Mr. Mihm, the film’s director, for getting the title wrong.]
Mystery Science 3000: The Movie has been re-released for anyone who didn’t get it the first time.
