Monster of the Day #3710

Yesterday I mentioned Drac Pack, which was basically a cartoon version of the live action program Monster Squad. Both were for kids in an era when that basically meant “pretty dumb,” but I personally like Monster Squad a lot more, even if it’s pretty cheap looking.

First, of course, Monster Squad was live action. As you’d expect from the time, Drac Pack’s level of animation falls somewhat short of Demon Slayer. More to the point, though, (presumably to further interest kids, since that’s the sort of thing they assumed) the monster characters were teens rather than the traditional adults. Not my bad, so much. This isn’t to say that the latter doesn’t have its own fans, though.

  • I watched the opening for this, and the whole thing is cringe. Frankie? Howler? Drac jr? Yikes, man.

Worse is the nickname for the actual Dracula who leads them: Big D. The mind boggles.

I'm pretty sure I dug it a lot as a wee kid.

I also always wondered why the Star Wars Holiday Special never played again. So clearly I've never had taste.
