Hmm…

Hilary Swank is following up her Oscar win for Million Dollar Baby by signing for a horror flick called The Reaping. I hope this works out better for her than The Jacket did for Adrian Brody. The fact that the film will be produced by Joel Silver doesn’t reassure me any.

  • I still believe that winning the Oscar is the worst thing that can happen to an actress. There hasn’t been one poor gal who’s won in the last fifteen years whose film choices didn’t go way south. (I think that sentance makes sense…)

  • I just don’t think it helps. Women have it even tougher than men in Hollywood, and good parts are few and far between. In the vast majority of cases, either you’re a big star already and remain a big star after winning (Tom Hanks, etc.), or you’re not much of a star and remain that way: Adrian Brody, etc.

If there is an actual bad effect to winning, it probably stems from trying to strike while the moment is hot to cash in either money-wise or box office popularity wise, due to assuming that your artistic credentials are now safeguarded.
