Happy New Year!

Yes, the blog is still alive, and so too will be the Jabootu site. I actually was ready to hit the ground running on the latter this weekend, but have had no web connection at home for all of last week, and Tech Guy Paul was out of town. Sigh. In any case, I do intend to get the blog up to more active status.

As to the main Jabootu site, FoJ (Friend of Jabootu) Henry Brennan and scheduled/pre-paid site sponsor for January will get a make-up month later on, along with credit for whatever I do manage to get up. Next weekend I have a B-Masters Roundtable review due, and I will get it up even if I have to work over at Paul’s place. Also, by hook or by crook Henry’s Sponsor’s Pick of Billy Jack Goes to Washington will appear at some point, hopefully the weekend after this, but we’ll see.

That’s where I’m at, and I hope everyone else is doing as well or better. Thanks everyone for their patience.

  • How much does it cost to sponsor a film?

  • I’ll be putting the details up (whenever my (&*@#$ Internet connection is working) on the main site, but the idea is that a minimum $25 (considering that you, for example, sent me an insane amount of money back in ’04, I’d say that would be more than generous–in fact, I’m a little embarrassed even soliciting further money from you) will get your name up on the front page for a month, get you a “This review courtesy of____” tag on any pieces that go up that during that period, and the opportunity to choose one film from from a list of potential review subjects.

Basically I wanted some control over the sponsor film, so I’ve made a fairly lengthy and diverse list up of things that are on my get-to-someday list. The sponsor gets to expedite that process for whatever film he chooses. Henry, for instance, wants Billy Jack Goes to Washington; the guy after him Navy vs. the Night Monsters.

In other words, nothing of any value whatsoever.

Any chance for B-Fest this year, by the way?

  • Alas, no B-Fest. I live too far away, but I’d love to attend some day. Say Hi to Henry for me!

I figure I should sponsor a film, specifically, the KISS movie, since I screwed up bad on that on the board (I posted that Amazon said it was coming on DVD, and they removed it days later! I swear to God, MacReady, it had a hold of him!)

    Next week…

  • First, too bad about B-Fest. Please do keep it in mind.

Second, don’t (please) feel in any way obligated to sponsor a month, although obviously I won’t break down in tears if you do.

The Kiss DVD *did* come out–for about one day. Rumor has it the band got the disc withdrawn. It was very briefly available, and I did get a copy, so I’m covered there.

  • Aw man looking foward to Billy Jack Goes To Washington, which manages the neat hat trick of looking both incredibly expensive and incredibly cheap at the same time. Some locations obviously cost money and I guess they made up for it my suggesting the idea that no more than 12 people are running around Washington at any given time. That and the fun game of “Which Item is Hidding Tom’s Paunch in This Scene?”

  • If I remember correctly, when Laughlin was denied permission to film in the Capitol Building (BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT FEARED HIM!!!), he had an exact mock-up of the congressional chambers built up, thus eating a substantial part of his production budget.

  • Yeah there’s a neat rundown of the film at The Unknown Movies about the film. Poor Tom he thought the goverment was out to get him not that by 1979 the counter culture was getting close to 5 years dead and any critical or commercial success had been blown to dust by the 18 hour long Trial of Billy Jack.
