No watch party for me, too many power issues in the apartment. Goes off several times a day.

  • 🐻 bgbear_rnh

Our went out this morning. One of those 10 minutes outages long enough to only be a nuisance.

  • Beckoning Chasm

One can see the dilemma. I might be in the middle of composing a memorable witticism when the power goes out. The shame!

I'll laff at a random moment and pretend that it was something you wrote.

  • I can never rely on a power outage to save me from making a "memorable" witticism.

    Did the watch party happen?

A little late with a few hiccups but GJ pulled up a movie for us.

OT (I guess) but Kino Lorber is having a sale. Now's your chance to get that Blue-ray of "Cool as Ice"!

Saturday's movie was Criterion's blue-ray of "Island of Lost Souls." Image is always watchable, mostly very good but varies. Grain here and there sometime gets overwhelming. (Hey, it was made in the 1930's). Sound is great. Charles Laughton is incredible, and Bela Lugosi is remarkable in a small part. The leads are kind of bland.

And really, it's the one version of "Island of Doctor Moreau" that really works, that's really horrifying. Every other version is a camp classic (especially the Marlon Brando one). This one is really scary and gruesome. Worth watching.

Bonus: Devo's first video (I think). They talk about how the film influenced them, with the whole "Are we not men?" bit.
