Okay…

The commercial for Peter Jackson’s King Kong looked pretty cool.

  • I know that keeping the monster secret didn’t work for Deanzilla, but I’m a little sad that they showed Kong in the commercial. His first appearance was such a big moment in the original film.

  • Chad

Guys with Tommy guns fighting dinosaurs? I’m there.

  • Thanoseid: Sadly, I think we no longer live in a age in which such discretion is possible.

  • Too true. It’s not like this is even the first time I’ve seen the big guy, since last month’s comic Previews catalog had full page ads for statues and bookends.

  • That whole “hide the monster” ploy is overrated anyway. Everybody knows who and what Kong is, so why play cutesy about it? Kong’s first appearance in the film can still be a big moment if it’s played right.

  • My only reservations about the film so far are:

    1) it has velociraptors. Holy cow, can’t we have a dinosaur movie without these overused critters? They have no place in a Kong film IMO (he needs to fight BIG things). And there were PLENTY of potentially-dangerous prehistoric animals that weren’t raptors.

    2) the model of the giant bugs attacking the movie’s heroes seems to indicate that they survive the attack. No one should ever survive a giant bug attack. So there.

  • Sandy —

I agree. I think I blanched when somebody told me about the ‘raptors.

On the other hand, they worked so well in the Deanzilla movie. (OK, ‘raptor knock-offs, but still.)

And, yep, unless the bugs are not meat eating, I’d have to agree. Especially at that size, too big to kill easily but too small to avoid by running inside an enclosed area.
