Off to Houston…

To hang with Kirk and Patty Draut for a few days.  Then on Friday we head to Dallas for Saturday’s fifth annual T-Fest.

I’ll see some of you tomorrow night for pizza in Houston, then more of you Saturday at the Fest.  I’ll jump on and drop notes when and if I can bum a computer.  Otherwise, I’ll be back at the site on a regular basis next Wednesday.

Have a great week, everybody.

If anyone happens to know and can tell me, what’s the first movie? We’re supposed to drop the girl-child off at the airport that morning (which is sad ’cause I was hoping to bring her along this year), but the lady of the house thinks we have to sit in the airport until the flight actually leaves…which isn’t until 10 am. I may have to miss part of it, but maybe if it’s something she’s interested in seeing, she can be convinced to leave a little earlier, or at least go right there from the airport.

    Rev,

Ken’s at Patty n’ Kirks’ bunkhouse tonight and tomorrow morning. We just returned from a long, laughter and movie-talk laced dinner with the Houston T-Fest crew (yes, I’m trying to make everybody feel jealous). I go stud to T-Fest so I don’t know, but Kirk (and presumably Ken) can be reached at kirkdraut@gEEmail.com.

(Extra EE’s for the benefit of spambots.)

  • The Rev. D.D.

I was hoping Mr. Petersen would know, or that maybe Ken’d happen to log in. I know it’s a long shot. Ah well.

I go stud as well but this was an exception.

And good job on the jealousy thing. It certainly worked in my case. *shakes his fist* You win this round, LK.

Dinner was great. I think that will become a T-Fest tradition.

  • The first movie was “Hausu” (aka House), from Japan. I’m sure Ken will do a rehash when he gets back – he’s at my house right now, playing games with my wife, daughter, and daughter-in-law, the roue.

Anyway today at my place we watched “Don’t be Afraid of the Dark” an old TV movie starring Kim Darby, then “Pulgasari”, “Cat Women of the Moon” and we just finished “Eric in the Land of Insects”, a weird Dutch children’s film. I think we’re going to watch either “Dinosaurus”, “The Vulture” or “Curse of the Blue Lights” next.

T-Fest was, IMO, a great success. The only movie that actually had us falling asleep from boredom was “Theodore Rex”, which was also the last movie. All the others were peppy successes. Though, since three of the films were “Hausu”, “Island of Lost Souls”, and “Sugar Hill”, I wonder if we’re at risk of losing our Bad Movie cred.

  • The Rev. D.D.

Ah man, Pulgasari{/b}? That’s on my short list of kaiju movies I’ve yet to see. Lucky bastards.

As long as the majority of the movies we watch are crap like R.O.T.O.R. and Theodore Rex and Nightmare City, I think our cred is safe.

  • Pulgasari is a surprisingly good film. The special effects are as good as any 70s Toho or Daiei epic, and it’s all framed with a story very reminiscent of a Shaw Bros historical.
