What Waits Below (1984). I’m not sure I’d even heard of this one. On the other hand, it has one of those generic titles that refuses to fix a movie in your mind. Basically, it’s an American update of one of those Amicus “lost civilization” movies that they ground out after Land that Time Forgot. Minus all the monsters, sadly. I guess Warlords of Atlantis would be the closest. It’s also set in a cave (surprisingly popular as a setting in the ’80s), leading to a lot of hyper-exciting spelunking action. *cough*
The US Army is doing something bad (booooooo!) and sends some scientists, soldiers and the inevitable Action Man contractor into said cave, only to discover that their MacGuffin is being held by an extremely outdated and kind of goofy (of course) albino underground race.
It was a thing we watched. Not the worst thing, but it didn’t have a ton of juice either. Still, one more title to notch in our cinematic belts.
