Well, as it turned out, today was not only my birthday but Movie Night, ab evening every month when some friends from work and I get together to watch a movie at my place. Since it was my b-day, they bought me dinner at Barnaby’s, a great local pub chain where they flame broil the burgers. Yum.
My friend Therese made me (as I indicated earlier) a from scratch blueberry pie, although it became more of a crumble, as if there’s anything wrong with that. Therese also picked the film this month, and it was Touchez pas au grisbi, a typically neat jejune French gangster flick from the ’50s. I guess it’s partly because of WWII, but for whatever reason, the French really do gangster films up right.
As if the leftover pie isn’t enough, my friend Cathy bought me four dark chocolate macaroons from Godiva, which weigh about four pounds total and probably cost [insert enormous amount here]. So I fully expect to be sick tomorrow after gorging on all that.
However, the best was to come, as everyone had chipped in to buy me that awesome new 8 disc Little Rascals collection, as well as the fourth volume of the chronological Three Stooges. This one contains the short Dizzy Pilots, which features one of my five favorite gags of all time. Hmm, I might actually have to write a blog article about that….
Anyway, presents I really wanted and didn’t have to buy myself (and the Rascals set went for over $50). All thanks to my much too generous pals, and the magic of Amazon wish lists. Speaking of, don’t you love companies that are well run? I do, and Amazon really tries hard.* Their free shipping is keen, and the wish list idea is great. I hope whoever came up with that got a big bonus.
[*I’m not just shilling because I link to their site and get a cut of sales. I really do think Amazon is one of the best run companies out there.]Anyhoo, that’s it for the personal life naval gazing for at least a year. Thanks to everyone here who wished me a great birthday.
