Monster of the Day #753 (UPDATED)

So…haven’t done the ’80s for a bit.

UPDATE: I think people were being thrown by what I suspect was just a lighting effect. Here’s the same (I think) beastie with a less severe gel.

  • Flangepart

Blue skin, green eyes, bad teeth…British zombie?

  • The Rev.

I haven’t see either, but for some reason I’m guessing either The Dead Pit or The Chilling.

  • sandra

Is that Plague of the Zombies ?

  • No idea. Which makes me most eager to find out which film it’s from. Always looking for a new Horror flick to watch.

Especially after watching Night of the Cobra Woman last week. Gah.

  • Rock Baker

Figuring you mean the 60’s Hammer film, I know it isn’t that. I’m not sure what this is. It reminds me of THE BEAST WITHIN, but I’m pretty sure that’s not it either.

  • I’d be surprised if it was. I would have thought I’d remember a blue zombie-creature. I wonder if this isn’t CHUD 2. For some reason it rings that bell, and it is an 80’s movie I haven’t seen.

  • Rock Baker

I have a copy of CHUD 2 I never got around to watching (comic horror sequels have never been my cup of tea). Maybe I should put it in the machine tonight and find out….

  • The Rev.

Please don’t. I watched it in my youth, having never seen the original and being much less demanding than I am now, and still found it horrible.

Having finally seen the original this year, it’s even worse in comparison, as the original is one of those “Dammit I should’ve seen this years ago!” movies for me.

I don’t think this is from C.H.U.D. II; there were no glowing-eyed zombies, or blue zombies for that matter, I’m pretty sure. Unlike the fantastic original C.H.U.D.s, the ones in the sequel just looked like people in NotLD-“inspired” greasepaint (black under the eyes, pale, etc.)

  • C.H.U.D is a damn fine movie, almost in spite of itself. I have never heard anything good about the sequel, but does that make me want to see it less? No.

I’m not sure I shouldn’t be ashamed of that.

  • Petoht

Hmm… kind of reminds me of the original EVIL DEAD, but I don’t think they had lighting like that. The only other thing that leaps to mind is CHILDREN SHOULDN’T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS.

  • The Rev.

Well, that was made before the ’80s, plus the zombies didn’t look like this, so I don’t think it’s that.

I’m still waiting for Ken to let us know what this is, and if one of my two guesses is right.

  • Rock Baker

I plan to watch it eventually for a single reason: Robert Vaughn. I’ve always been a fan, and he should make the film worth a watch. Although having said that, the man is no stranger to terrible films. He’s sort of like John Saxon or Anthony Eisley in that respect.

  • Rock Baker

Even with the new pic, I’m still stumped. You guys?

  • Sandy Petersen

It is NOT C.H.U.D. or C.H.U.D. 2, the latter which, though I won’t defend, I will happily show it at T-fest some day. It doesn’t remind me of the Chilling. Could possibly be the Dead Pit.

  • GalaxyJane

I just get vaguely depressed whenever I see Robert Vaughn shilling for whatever local ambulance-chasing law firm is around. At one point, I lived in 3 different states in 3 years and each one had the same ads, just with a different law firm name dubbed in over the static title card at the end.

  • Sandy Petersen

clearly not Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things. Barely possible that it is an unremembered scene from The Dead Hate the Living.

  • The Rev.

Quite sure it’s not TDHtL. That was from the late ’90s (maybe even 2000), plus the zombies and lighting didn’t look like this at all.

  • Rodford Smith

    “Hulk rash!”
