Monster of the Day #751

Fun movie, if a bit of a piffle. Fay Wray again goes on an exotic adventure, again rousing the oft-expressed disdain but eventual love of a tough, he-man sailor (Ralph Bellamy)! When Wray’s diving bell is threatened by this ENTIRELY LOVABLE beastie, Bellamy goes below in Ye Olde Diving Suit to save the day.

Here’s a picture of the prop. Man, I just adore stuff like this.

For some reason Arby’s curly fries sound really good right now.

That octopus looks like its been hitting the PEDs.. We should demand an investigation.

So, Fay is a diving Belle in a diving Bell…neat.

Few things are as heart-warming as a life-size rubber octopus.

Ah, the lovely Fay Wray, one of the main reasons I wish bikinis had been around in the 30’s.

  • It’s the water, isn’t it? Whenever it’s in the water, an octopus prop looks more “real” than when it’s on land.

I’d venture to say it was probably made purposefully to look more natural in the water. Purpose-built, in other words, since it probably didn’t have any above-water footage. I’d like to know what film this is so I can see it!

  • Were I a betting man, I’d put money on Below the Sea. Mainly because I looked up the two actors involved in the IMDb. I’m not proud.
