Monster of the Day #739

Still have so many of these! Another day or two won’t hurt.

I wish they had one with Godzilla smoking a cigarette.

  • Ken_Begg

    Like Fred and Barney?

  • Ericb

In one of the photos you posted the other day the guy in the Godzilla suit was taking a smoking break so I thought it might be humorous to have a picture of Godzilla smoking. Since he’s already radioactive I doubt tobacco would be that much of a greater risk.

I don’t know, they don’t let the Wolverine or Ben Grimm smoke anymore.

  • bgbear_rnh

The problem is that the big G causes to much damage when he exhales his cigarette smoke.

  • Ericb

Gives new meaning to “second hand smoke.”

  • Flangepart

Hey, when Tokyo blazes, it’s a bit more than ‘second hand’ bub.

Have to protect the children, after all. *Pause* Kids still do read comics, right?

  • Rock Baker

I’m not sure. One of my publishers decided to put out a book just for kids, and the idea seemed almost revolutionary among his colleagues.

That said, I don’t draw a lot of criticism for my own work but one thing that occasionally seems to get people nervous is when I draw characters smoking. But then, I suppose cigarettes have become SO vilified in recent years that it’s even considered a bad influence if adults see someone else light up!

  • That second picture looks kinda dirty.

Drunk on his success, Godzilla’s demands on the crew began to hinder everyday shooting. Here he is carried from his trailer to the set following an all-night bender with Gamera and Ultraman.

He was quoted just before this picture was taken as saying “If Fukuda keeps us past five today, I’m going to shoot someone.”

‘That said, I don’t draw a lot of criticism for my own work but one thing

    smoking.’

You just need to draw more acceptable behavior, like rape or cannibalism. More seriously, I’m joking. Though when I think of modern superhero comics…

And the idea of a comic for kids seems ‘almost revolutionary’? That’s sad. Though I understand that the new My Little Pony comic (of which I’ve read a few issues, and they’re decent to good) has a large audience of kids and adults, which sounds good.
