It’s Untouchable, all right…

Wow, Brian DePalma directing a not exactly fresh sequel to The Untouchables, with Nick Cage filling in for Kevin Costner?   That sounds like dynamite!!  [Update:  Sounds like Cage is out.  Still, that was the coolest idea since Cage was going to play Superman for director Tim Burton.]  And it’s a prequel to the earlier film.  Uhm, isn’t Cage older now than Kostner was when he made the original movie?  Not to mention completely wrong for the part?   It’s amazing that Hollywood will still cast a completely inappropriate actor to head a film as long as he’s a ‘star.’

Remember in Ed Wood, when Orson Welles said that studios think they’re directors? And then he gave an example about a movie he wanted to do, wherein producers thought Clint Eastwood should play a mexican. More and more I realize that it’s still one hundred percent the exact same thing to this day.

And Cage as Superman wasn’t the worst of it. Producer Jon Peters’ first pick for the role (in roughly the same movie) was Sean Penn (Spicoli?)

So, is Nic Cage officially the new Micheal Caine?? Wouldn’t be cool if Uwe Boll got him for a movie? You’d have something there. Something… fell… let us not speak it aloud *g*

Sorry, Dillon, but you misread that scene in “Ed Wood.” Welles was complaining about having to cast Charlton Heston as a Mexican. He was talking about “Touch of Evil,” which does indeed star Heston (in very unconvincing makeup) as a Mexican cop.

But your point is well taken.
