UPDATE: Amazon Spot Sale on MST3K Gamera set…

UPDATE: The price, until supplies run out, is $32.50, half off the MSRP. 5% of the sets have been claimed in three minutes.

In about two hours (8:00 CST), Amazon is currently running a Gold Box deal on the MST3K Gamera set. This isn’t the “Deal of the Day,” but one of those spot sales that lasts only a couple of hours or until they run out of the allotted stock. Anyway, the price won’t be listed until it goes on sale, but the discounts for these things tend to be pretty good. So if you wanted the set and haven’t gotten it yet, this might be a good time to grab it.

Oh, and the Deal of the Day is the Twin Peaks collection for $37, 60% off the list price.

    Well, like Joe Don Baker I was offended at first but hey if it makes the children happy Joel and the bots can make fun of me.

    Seriously I’ve seen all of these about fifty times a piece but it has been a decade so what the hell, I’ve wasted thirty-five bucks on sillier stuff.

  • Is it possible to turn off the robots while watching the movies? Because Gamera is a hoot to watch without the lewd comments – it’s funny enough by itself.

    I’ll never forget when I was watching Gamera vs. Guiron with my 11 year old son and the space babes showed up. I immediately began teasing my son by saying that the space babes were aliens, so they would clearly want to eat the cub scouts’ brains. He rolled his eyes and “Oh Dad”ded me. But then by golly it turned out I was RIGHT! From then on Gamera can do no wrong by me.

    Trivia question – in how many of the 12 Gamera movies is Tokyo Tower destroyed?

    I’d have to go back and check each, but I’m thinking four or five of them.

    GAMMERA THE INVINCIBLE, yes (though I’m not sure if that scene made it into the first American version).

    WAR OF THE MONSTERS, no. (but yes in publicity photos)

    THE RETURN OF THE GIANT MONSTERS, no. (ditto)

    I don’t remember for sure, but both DESTROY ALL PLANETS and SUPER MONSTER may have used the stock shot of Gammera/Gamera attacking in back in ’65 (but I won’t commit).

    ATTACK OF THE MONSTERS, no.

    Did the tower get hit in GAMERA VS MONSTER X? I’ve only seen it once.

    GAMERA VS ZIGRA, maybe, as it might have fallen victim to the earthquake, but again I can’t commit.

    GAMERA, GUARDIAN OF THE UNIVERSE, yes. In fact, Gaos made a nest in the remains.

    I don’t think so in the other three films, but I am far from expert on those three. No, wait, was it destroyed in GAMERA 3?

    Super Monster didn’t use footage from the original, as I recall. Pretty sure it’s a “no” on that movie.

    I think the space gals at one point watch Gamera’s solo attack on the city on television, which is footage from the first film tinted peach for use in DESTROY ALL PLANETS. Technically, the stock footage is from DESTROY ALL PLANETS, but its stock footage of stock footage.

    At least such a scene appears in my print of the film, I believe.
