SALE OVER

85 smackers (57% off the $200 MSRP) gets you 105 episodes on 41 discs in an attractive (cardboard) spy-style attache case.

Oh, by the way, this just came out this week:

Truly we live in an age of wonders.

I’ve been very excited all year because I heard they were releasing the Boris Karloff-hosted Thriller show on DVD this fall. They are, but for a whopping $150 MSRP! The package looks great, and they seem to have put a lot of work into it, but man, I’m going to have to wait until it gets much cheaper than that. Hell, I saw the $100 MSRP Brisco County Jr. set going for $20 not a long time ago. I can wait a bit.

Also due out–I’ve been waiting for this show for a VERY long time–the Jim Hutton Ellery Queen series. Man, I loved that show. Cool Henry Mancini score, too.

What about the U.N.C.L.E. feature films? I notice One Spy Too Many is included in the set. I’d love to see all the feature films together in a set of their own. True, they were expanded from episodes of the series, but done so with new footage (shockingly racy footage at times). Actually I can’t say for sure if the extra footage was shot when the episode was shot and held aside for the feature version, or if it was shot shortly afterward. Still, I’d love to have the complete run of UNCLE movies, as well as the series. The first I saw of UNCLE was a 16mm print of To Trap a Spy, and I’d love to see it again. (There’s also the Girl from UNCLE, I assume her series has been released too.)

  • I have to admit, I’m more of an I Spy guy.

Figures. I just bout the U.N.C.L.E set for a bit under $150.00. The set includes the trailers from the other movies, but One Spy Too Many is the only movie. Richard Kiel appears for about 2 seconds in the very first episode. I had to check IMDB to confirm it, since he wasn’t credited.

I was exposed to UNCLE first, but I can’t deny that I Spy was technically a better show. I just love the 60s super-spy genre in general. Bond, Flint, Helm, Chance, Solo, Bondrock, I love ’em all to one degree or another. It was probably the first ‘adult’ genre I really got into while gorwing up.

Ahem, I meant GROWING up, not gorwing up. Sorry.

  • Don’t forget James West!

Oh, right! Man, I feel like an idiot for leaving HIM off the list! (I really need to get ahold of that show too, all I have right now are the two reunion movies. Yet another show I saw thanks to TNT back in the good days.)

I’d like the Uncle box set, but I HATE those oddball packaging things. I know I’m probably in the minority on that, but I just do. I just can’t imagine why they insist on those things, as if I’m eight years old or something.

  • I’m certainly up for the “Thriller” set (once the price comes down). I saw it a few times, many years ago, and I was seriously creeped out by the “The Incredible Doktor Markesan” – which I saw when I was a kid, in elementary school (!) I had nightmares for a week.
