Huge news…

Disney to acquire Marvel for $4 billion.  Man, I wish I’d bought some Marvel stock a few years ago.

And how’s this:

John Lasseter [of Pixar] met with Marvel last week about a possible team-up between Marvel and Pixar and got “pretty excited, pretty fast.” They say there’s definitely an opportunity there.

SWEET!! Hopefully Columbia only owns the rights to live-action Fantastic Four movies (which they’ve totally boned). Imagine a Pixar version of the Galactus saga!

Pixar should make a Venom movie… [nods]

  • BeckoningChasm

Pixar already made a pretty good Fantastic Four movie, only they called it “The Incredibles.” If anyone can do Marvel right, I’d put money on Pixar.

On the other hand, I can foresee this: “We’ll be right back to ‘X-Babies’ after these messages!”

@BeckoningChasm: Ah, how true! The Incredibles is a better Fan4 film than any of the liver-action ones.
You do know that “The X-Babies” is something Marvel has actually done, right (a few times, in fact)? An X-Babies movie could be really fun, actually.

This is amazing news. I suppose one will be able to go to Disney World and take a picture with Doctor Octopus and Goofy.

Seriously, the teamups could be amazing, The Fantastic Four and Incredibles take on Syndrome and Doctor Doom, Tron meets Iron Man, Dug the Dog goes hunting with Wolverine, etc

However, Ken, Fox still owns the Fantastic Four, for now, anyway

Everyone take a deep breath regarding the movie side of things. Spider-Man, X-Men, Daredevil and Fantastic Four are all licensed to other studios for the foreseeable future. Heck, they are making another three (3) Spidey movies, so that property will be locked up for a decade.

The main things that will change in the short term will be :

    (1) Possible animated shows on the Disney channel and its subsidiaries, mainly of the b-list characters.
    (2) Comic books of such properties as Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers.
    (3) Bigger licencing pushes for ancillary products carrying the Marvel characters.
    (4) Marketing pushes for the upcoming Marvel movies such as Thor and the Avengers.

I’d probably care more about the Spidey films if they hadn’t already blown their chance of dealing with the Venom storyline properly.

Fingers crossed that Spectacular Spider-Man gets renewed.

What happened to Spectacular Spider-Man anyway; I haven’t seen it since it disappeared from the CW Saturday morning line up.

  • Ericb

I hope they don’t stick anything in the Disney Vault.

Zac Efron as Thor! Mylie Cyrus as the Wasp!

“(2) Comic books of such properties as Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers.” Brrrr! Damn, that gives me the williams.

I’m hearing rumours that Picar might do an Ant Man movie. Which would be an awesome opportunity to tie together A Bugs Life, The Incredibles and The Avengers.
