New on DVD this week…

Except regarding Donnie Darko. That movie sucks serious ass.

Bullshit! S6; Dana Carvey Show (the short-lived sketch comedy); Lovejoy S5; Two and a Half Men S5

But enough of the TV stuff. This is sure to be a record breaking Amazon link week for me, because man, look at the parade of stuff below that we’ve all been dying to finally see:

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans Because if there’s anything we’ve been hungering for, it’s a prequel to the Underworld series featuring only a cameo appearance by Kate Beckinsale.

S. Darko Speaking of unrequested follow-ups, here’s a DTV Donnie Darko sequel made by a completely different set of people. Since I absolutely loathed DD, man, I can’t wait to see this one.

The Grudge 3…good grief, is this week cursed?

Speaking of Grudge 3, how about Possession, which is…are you sitting down…an American remake of a Japanese horror film starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. You know, it’s entirely possible that Freddie Prinze Jr. is now the chief breadwinner in that house.

Gothkill…the spirit of Fred Olen Ray lives on.

The decent but no more than that action thriller Taken is also out, now in an “extended cut.” How can that possibly make the film better?

    I have a higher opinion of Taken cause I’m a huge 24 fan. Taken is basically Liam Neeson going Jack Bauer (screaming, threatening, shooting, & tortur, uh excuse me, I mean using “enhanced interrogation techniques”) on half of Europe to get his daughter back. I thought Neeson was great (who’ll forget his “I have a particular set of skills” speech”) & it was cool to see a vigilante who uses his brains as much as his brawn.

    I hang my head in shame for getting Unxderworld: Rise of the Lycans. Hey, at least some of the werewolves LOOKED like werewolves this time around, That’s something, right?

    Yeah, probably not. Still going to get it, though. They say the first step is admitting you have a problem :)

  • I guess my impression of Taken was that it adequately presented the story promised by the trailers, but didn’t really raise the bar any. Obviously, mileage varies.

    Earl, I feel bad now. That was just snark on my part; you watch whatever you like and don’t worry about it. Good grief, look at the stuff I enjoy. Stand loud and stand proud, brother.

    Well, since the others have been mentioned, I might as well mention that I’ll probably rent Grudge 3. What can I say, I’m a sucker for creepy, long haired ghosts. ^_^

    Hey, believe me, I know the movie is bad, but sometimes all it takes is a lady in a rubber catsuit, or a prequel of same, and I’m sold :)
