Holmes Afraid of the Dark

Remakes continue getting weirder.  There’s a well-regarded ’70s horror TV flick called Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (which I’ve never seen).  Unsurprisingly, genre maven Guillermo del Toro has, and now he’s penned a (presumably) theatrical redo that Katie Holmes has signed to star in.

If nothing else, maybe this will get the original movie a long-overdue DVD release.

  • Are you referring to “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”? The TV-movie? That was actually pretty good, though sadly unsavailable on commercial DVD (some of the dvd-r sites have it). There was also a flim in 1991 called “Afraid of the Dark” which I know nothing about.

  • Thanks, Sandy; corrected.

Whoah, totally different film from what I was thinking. I was thinking of Wait Until Dark… O_O

BTW, I HATE hat Wikipedia gives away the endings of movies without warning you.

Aw, I wanna see this movie now… dang.

I have a grey-market DVD of DBAOTD, listed as a “Special Anniversary Edition!” (with no extras).

It still holds up remarkably well. I used to creep out my college roomate by whispering, “She let us in! She let us in!”
