Cubbies rolling along…

Another not great week for the Cubs, but they seem to be starting to get their act together.  Last Friday the magic number stood at 18; I predicted it would be down to 11 today due to four Cubs wins and three Brewers loses.  It is down to 11, but the Cubs only one three times (although they also had a day off I didn’t factor into things) and the Brewers lost four.  The Brewers continue to play so bad that they may actually fall out of the wild card slot.  That would be two collapses in two years for them.

Although the Cubs continued to play poorly, they won the last two games against the Cards, so things may be looking up.  However, they were scheduled to play in Houston this weekend, and with the hurricane, we have no idea what’s going on with that.  Of course, baseball is a small matter in such cases.  May all of our good friends in the gulf states get through the storm safely.

I’m out of town this coming week, so I won’t be seeing any games anyway.  The Cubs have 16 scheduled games left (if they can’t play in Houston this week, some of those games may end up cancelled), a five and a half game lead and a magic number, again, of 11.  I imagine by next Friday the magic number will be down to at least 5.

Go Cubs, and again, here’s hoping for a very, very small storm down in the gulf.

After dealing for Sabathia, if the Brewers don’t make the playoffs this year, the franchise may be devastated beyond repair

  • Yeah, they traded a lot of their future for Sabathia, and just to rent him until the end of the season, as there is no way he’ll be staying in Milwaukee. He’s completely been worthy of that trade, fantastic, in fact, but the rest of the team hasn’t been for the last two or three weeks. They better get their act together soon because Houston is catching up quickly.
