B-Fest Tickets go on sale tomorrow…

Details can be found at www.b-fest.com.  I suspect they will sell out quickly, as usual.  Tickets are $35 per, and can be ordered via phone.  Zardoz is the one announced movie this year.

If anyone wants more info, again check the B-Fest.com site.  And if you are hoping/planning to attend, leave a note in the message section below.

  • ZARDOZ? You have some fine spies, Ken, that hasn’t even appeared on the offical B-Fest forum (and sorry you learned that juicy news, because I know you prefer to go stag). I’m not thrilled about seeing ZARDOZ again, but must admit it will probably play well at B-Fest.

I’ll have an agent standing in line for tickets tomorrow. Looking forward to my 7th straight B-Fest.

Any word on whether there will be more DVD presentations this year? While I prefer 35mm best of all, I begrudgingly admit I’d rather see a good-quality DVD than a 16mm (seeing a nice-looking 35mm print of SAVAGE SISTERS was super-cool). Last year’s one DVD showing was pretty decent, but there’s room for improvement.

ZADOZ projected! Wow, what a blast that would be to see! Although maybe not. There are images in that film that might make me curl up in the fetal position if they were that immersive…

  • Actually, B-Fest.com lists Zardoz on the front page, from which I could not avert my eyes before seeing it. It played at the Fest a little too recently for my tastes, but is a great movie for the show. I hope we don’t get a calvacade of repeats, however. (Checking my notes, it actually played in 1999, so it’s not that recent. Seems that way, though.)

Chris Holland of Stomp Tokyo is more in touch with the organizers (which makes sense, as he runs B-Fest.com), but he hasn’t passed along any word on the DVD front yet. Shockingly, work considerations may keep Chris from attending this year, after a decade plus run.

  • Chris Magyar

Decade-plus? :) I’m pretty sure Chris H. and I started the same year, in 2000 (which is after Zardoz last played, but now I’m really rubbing it in). But I can’t blame ya … it certainly feels like decades.

  • Magyar is right, I began attending B-Fest in 2000. My heart, she is breaking to not be at B-Fest this year but I will naturally be there with you in spirit.

DVD projection is a likely prospect for the same reason as last year — prints of Godzilla movies are mighty hard to obtain from Sony if you use the “platter” method of displaying 35mm films, which Norris Hall does. Unless A&O opts for some other giant monster to close the fest, you’ll probably be watching some DVD projection this year.

The programmers at A&O seem to be doing a fine job of tracking down prints and trying to avoid repeats, but honestly — is it really that bad if a few films repeat every 4 years or so?

  • Ken HPoJ

I guess you’re right, Chris. Wow, it seems like you guys have been attending a lot longer than that. Go figure.

“…but honestly — is it really that bad if a few films repeat every 4 years or so?”

As resident Old Man, I reserve the right to be crank and wave my fist at whippersnappers and their ways.

I will say that it’s a credit (of sorts) to Zardoz that it seems like I just saw it a few years ago.

  • BeckoningChasm

I’m not naming any titles because I know you want the surprise, Ken, but one of those films isn’t bad at all. I wonder why they chose it?

  • Well, B-Fest is actually a ‘b’ movie fest, not necessarily or even primarily a bad movie fest. So actually good b-movies are usually on the bill somewhere or other.

Where are you seeing a list? Others may wish to take a look.

I started attending B-Fest in 2000 and went regularly for the next four, maybe five, years. After that I got in the habit of not going, due to a mixture of not being too interested in the lineups and just getting old and cranky and suddenly unable to deal with crowds and noise. Seriously, it’s like a I woke up one morning and I was suddenly 80.

Last year’s lineup was good, though, and Zardoz is definitely a step in the right direction for this year. As much as I like Zardoz (and I do really like it a lot), there’s no denying that it is a supremely goofy and seriously deranged chunk of movie. Plus, I think it’s one of those movies that a lot of people know about but have never actually seen and can therefore not even begin to know how bonkers it is. Those people are in for an experience and a half.

Anyone know if 2008 tickets sold out already? I totally spaced on this and now the box office is closed until Monday. My first year in the area, and I may have missed my window…

  • HF — There’s no indication on the B-Fest.com site that tickets are sold out, so I’d definitely give them a call on Monday. Box office opens at 10:30, I think.

If they are sold out, let me know. I may end up with an extra ticket or two.

  • HatchetFace

As of about 10:45 this morning the box office told me there were around 50 tickets left, in case anyone else was wondering. Thanks for the offer anyway, KB. I’ve been reading about this online for nearly a decade and I’m finally going to be there this year.

  • BeckoningChasm

Ken–re, the list of titles–my mistake, they were from 2007. The one I was wondering about was “Tarantula.”

  • Sadly, Patty and I won’t be able to make it this year. We’ll be back in 2009 though.
