Monster of the Day #772

Reader MoD Entry:

From Gamera:

I don’t think Ken’s done this lil’ guy yet. I have to wonder after Peter Jackson’s early splatterfest comedies why anyone thought ‘yeah this is the perfect guy for the fantasy epic The Lord of the Rings‘…

    Smeagal, the early years.

Like so many actors, the Taco Bell dog was forced to take a series of lesser rolls in slasher movies after his vanity project, ‘Beverly Hills Chihuahua’, tanked.

  • Ericb

Eating at Taco Bell turned the Taco Bell Chihuahua into a zombie.

  • This was brought up in the forums, but I see no reason why it can’t be again: this is one of the movies I was forced to stop watching. Bear in mind that I’ve sat through some hideous gore scenes. But the pudding scene? No. No. Mr. Waters had to stop the tape and go do something else. Wow.

Not entirely sure there’s been another movie that’s hit me like that. Oh, I’ve stopped other films in disgust, but not one that set out to get me like this one did. Much respect for Peter Jackson over that.

    Hated this movie. Hated. Hate-Ed.

  • Flangepart

Glad I read the synopsis, avoided like the plague. Never regreated it.

why pick P. J. for the Lord of the Rings? Because he can do horror, and there are horror elements in LoTR. Because he can do humor, and there are humor elements in LoTR. And I assume somehow he lucked out , because for every perfect director/picture combination, Hollywood forges a thousand terrible ones.

  • The Rev.

I don’t know why, but the hate for this movie is surprising to me. I thought it was a hoot.

Oddly enough, I’ve not seen Bad Taste which would seem to be right up my alley since it sounds like a dry run for Dead Alive in some ways. I have seen Meet the Feebles, and……honestly, to this day, I’m not quite sure of my feelings on it.

  • Gamera977

Jackson is one of the few directors I have any respect for today so it’s not a slam. Just at the time it seemed an odd choice.

  • Gamera977

I dunno, normally I don’t go for gorefests. But once you get past the custard scene the movie becomes so insanely over the top bat guano crazy with the gore it becomes funny.

Though maybe I’m just strange. Helps that the gore is often so fake looking too. When it looks like tomato sauce it does defuse a great deal of the disgusting element.
