Hard to get more Gothic than this. Blacula was pretty close, but the whole ‘black Dracula’ thing still injected a very modern note into things. This is one of those films (Warlock is one of the best of them) exploring how Evil can exploit a society that’s too ‘sophisticated’ to believe in Evil anymore.
I will say the classically ’70s endings to both Yorga films are in retrospect pretty lame (along with yet again the climax to Deathmaster), if only because they were so utterly predictable. As I’ve noted in the past, Night of the Living Dead shattered all the horror movies rules. Then, in the resultant void of freedom, overnight a new, less satisfying set of rules was erected in its place.
