Monster of the Day #657

It’s extremely odd to me that these three films have never been collected in a box set. Different rights holders? Maybe. Except for the Mimic movies, I can’t think of a low-budget trilogy from this era that was so consistently good. Unsurprisingly, Larry Cohen wrote these. That’s a guarantee of quality right there.

Well, Tremors, but there was four of those, and I’m not sure they ever got as cheap as these and the Mimics movies did.

Also, dude, being thrifty is one thing, but it might be time to change the blades in your razor.

“You have the right to remain DEAD!”
Cap says it all…oh, and the unfortunate skin…

  • Ken_Begg

The actual tagliine was even better: “You have the right to remain silent…Forever!”

  • MANIAC COP!!!

  • Ericb

Yet another Man of Action who has Trouble Dealing with The Rules. A cop who doesn’t Play by the Book and always gets his man no matter what.

Ya think someday, someone will make a flick from the point of view of the superior who always complains about the Cop who won’t play by the rules?
    It would be different!

Have a TVseries on the Internal Affairs Bureau and make them the good guys. Has their ever been a cop show where the IAB is shown in a positive light?

  • But the Tremors movies got much worse over time, and the Maniac Cop stayed strong.

  • Ken_Begg

Really? I think the Tremors movies stayed pretty enjoyable. Not as strong as the first one, obviously, but even the fourth one was entertaining.

  • I’d say they got more thrifty as they went, but I certainly wouldn’t say they degraded. I’d say the fourth film was better than the second. (I’m speaking of the Tremors films, the Maniac Cop cycle has yet to reach me.)

  • The Rev.

I haven’t seen the original, and only a couple of bits from the two sequels. I have a feeling I’m missing out.

“Brooklyn South” had a police officer who was an informant for Internal Affairs and he was portrayed in a positive light. The IA supervisor was also shown positively.

For no reason, here’s my ranking of the Tremors series:

    Tremors – five stars
    Tremors 2-four stars
    Tremors 3-two stars
    Tremors 4-three stars
