Speaking of Luke Cage, by the way, the long-in-pre-production Cage film is still in limbo. Director John Singleton is still attached, but apparently won’t push the film hard until he can make it as he wants.
Almost everything about Singleton seems to make him perfect for this film, although the fact that he wants to turn Cage’s white wife into a black woman seems entirely lame and cowardly to me. Apparently comic books, even the superhero ones, feel they can take more chances on big issues than the movies these days.
Of course, Singleton isn’t afraid of offending white racists, but black females, who raise a stink whenever black actors are teamed romantically with white actresses. Denzel Washington has for years admitted that he wouldn’t risk a love scene with a white actress for that very reason.
