Superhero Movies: The Flash and Wonder Woman

Slowing down the torrent of comic book movies (although there are still a ton of them in the hopper), two major projects involving DC characters, Wonder Woman and The Flash, have lost their directors (Josh Whedon and David Goyer, respectively) and thus are back in pre-production limbo.  I imagine that the studios are hedging their bets, and want to see how this year’s crop of superhero movies do before committing the huge resources these films would require.  I’m sure the lukewarm box office for Superman Returns didn’t help.  In any case, the guy who directed the recent box office hit Night at a Museum has already stepped into the director slot for The Flash.  Still a lot of work left if that’s to get off the ground, though.  As for Wonder Woman, I expect superhero movies will have to stay really hot at the box office for that to have a chance of actually being made.

I remember the old Flash TV series. I thought it was a pretty good rendition of the character, if a bit limited by the TV format. I think a big-budget movie version would rock, as long as the script was good.

Wonder Woman has the potential to be really good as well, but I think it would be a really difficult to depict her character correctly. Everything would have to be done *just* right to really do her justice (no pun intended). As it stands, the big danger I see is that she would come out looking like just another Tomb Raider or Ultraviolet-type generic female hero.
