Big Bug Night on TCM!

Remember, it’s sci-fi monster movies every Thursday this month on TCM. Tonight, Big Bugs (all timesĀ  EST):

8:00 Them!

9:45 Cosmic Monsters

11:15 Tarantula

12:45 The Black Scorpion

2:30 The Giant Claw (???????????)

4:00 The Wasp Woman

If I had a TiVo, I’d particularly grab Cosmic Monsters and Wasp Woman. The former isn’t on DVD, and the latter is, but in really crappy public domain presentations. TCM wouldn’t schedule it if they didn’t have a good print, so here’s a chance to see it in good shape. Maybe they’ll rerun it some time in a slot more conducive to me seeing it.

  • The Rev.

I’ve seen The Wasp Woman enough times I’m probably not gonna grab it, unless I think the girls are interested in it.

The rest, though, I am, whether I’ve seen them a few times (Them), haven’t seen them in ages (Tarantula), haven’t seen them at all (The Cosmic Monsters, The Black Scorpion), or just need to inflict them on my loved ones (The Giant Claw).

One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn’t belong…

  • Tork_110

Oh, wow. I have got to record The Giant Claw.

  • P Stroud

Disturbingly, the only one of these I don’t already have on DVD is “Cosmic Monsters”. Even more disturbingly I’m not the only one here who does. All Hail Jabootu!

  • Rock Baker

I wonder if TCM will actually dig out the theatrical cut of Wasp Woman. Most every version availible is the extended televersion. While I have a copy of Cosmic Monsters, it could be a better print. Anyone interested in recording these for me? Maybe we can work out a trade, movies for art or something?

Yeah, the creature in The Giant Claw is more like a buzzard than any kind of “bug”… weird.

I have two versions of Wasp Woman, but both are MiSTied. One is by Cinematic Titanic (one of the projects some of the MST people are now working on), and the other by Josh Way, the “Fun With Shorts”/”Fun With Flicks” guy (you can find him as “romeorhino” on YouTube, or under the iRiffs section on the Rifftrax Site).

Sorry, that turned into kind of a plug… What can I say, I really like Josh’s stuff. (-:
/Good God, he’s decapitated the Tin Man!

  • The Rev.

I got to see the CT folks do The Wasp Woman live a couple of years ago. Man, that was great. I also got my old copy of “The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Amazing Colossal Episode Guide” signed by the gang. Most of them didn’t say much, but Joel was very friendly to everyone that came through. That everyman, down-to-earth charm he evinced on the show appears to just be how he is in real life.

  • Because of my adoration of The Giant Claw, and my lunatic desire to share my own personal joy over the third Transformers live-action movie with all you good Jabootuites, I’ve brought a picture of the HEAVILY-TGC-inspired Laserbeak from Dark of the Moon:

This is just one of the many reasons my black heart has swelled with Jabootuian love for Michael Bay since 2007.
