Amazon is today only selling the extremely spiffy Little Rascals: The Complete Collection for a jaw-droppingly low $28.50; 68% off the $80 list. I wish I had gotten mine for that price. It’s a terrific set, featuring 80 (!) shorts on eight discs plus special features in a hardbacked case. Since despite the huge array of cable stations no one seems to consistently show these anymore (glad I grew up in the 70s when these were on TV every day), you’d be doing any kids you know a huge favor by getting these. And yourself, really. Just a wonderful set, although personally I really love the pre-Alfalfa shorts even more than those ones.

Yes, the pre-Alfalfa rascals are the best. I loved Stymie as a kid.

I finally saw the Little Rascals Civil War movie on Turner. I can’t remember the title. General Spanky, perhaps? In any case, I’m not sure my jaw came up off of the floor for the entire movie. I understand that it was different times and all that, but I have trouble believing that even back then the scenes of Buckwheat moping around because he can’t find someone to be his master didn’t just infuriate a great many people.

Well, that waan’t that long after the KKK’s 1920s heyday. Its amazing how much attitutes can change after a only a generation or two.

  • @Reed I saw that one on TCM also and just thought WTF? All of them, including Buckwheat, wanted to kick the yankees out. You know, the yankees who were fighting to end slavery! What was going through his head? “Yeah! Get rid of those yankees! How dare they come down here and try to free my people!…Wait a minute…”

  • I think you guys are assuming that human psychology is a LOT more logical than it really is.
