Oddly, the blue ray for this movie is $4.00, while the regular DVD is $19. Go figure. For what it’s worth, this picture is surprisingly entertaining. I have no idea how long that price will be good for, though.

For s Sci Fi Original, it wasn’t bad…at least it wasn’t dispiriting like “Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.” I would like to see other titles on Blu-Ray with a price like that, though!

What exactly is a blue ray, anyway? (I’ve never looked into it because I use enough varying systems as it is, from actual film to laserdisc.)

  • BeckoningChasm

It’s high definition video, not quite film quality in terms of resolution, but more than standard DVD.

BC: My feelings exactly, although I thought it was gloriously silly and pretty much adore it. Sharktopus too.

MSvGO just left me sad for what could have been.

  • Yeah, MegaShark had the right idea; giant monster doing actual giant monster things, like attacking battleships and jetliners and (inevitably) the Golden Gate Bridge. Sadly, it really just needed another five minutes of CGI budget to make it pretty good…or pretty good for what it was intended to be. Instead it had about two minutes of CGI, requiring that numerous shots be repeated over and over again.

Mega Piranha, actually, is that latter movie, the one with the (somewhat) larger CGI budget. Plus it had Greg Brady playing the Secretary of State.

Exactly. There was plenty of piranha stuff going on, enough to keep things moving right along, and it almost never dragged even when they weren’t onscreen. I felt that Sharktopus managed to do the same, and actually found it a bit better overall as a movie, if not nearly as batshit crazy, though it certainly gave it a good try. (Did you catch that one, Ken? What’d you think?) MSvGO…I actually had to finish that in two sittings, because my depression over what could have been and my boredom with what I got just overwhelmed me. I kind of regret bothering to finish it, since it never really got better.

  • Haven’t seen Sharktopus; I don’t get the Syfy Channel (thank goodness, there are less painful ways to waste my life, even for me). I’ll surely rent it when it’s on DVD.

  • The Rev.

I hear ya. Between Siffy, Chiller and TCM my DVR is constantly full. I hardly watch things on DVD anymore, unless I pick up something I have to see immediately (like my recent acquisition of MST3K set 10).

  • Spot on with this write-up, I truly think this website needs much more consideration. I’ll probably be again to read much more, thanks for that info.
