    Brisco County Jr and The X Files debued on the same night, back-to-back. I never understood why BCJ didn’t become a big hit. It was always entertaining, and sometimes hilarious.

  • Actually, if you go back and check out newspapers of the time and whatnot, everyone thought BCJ would be one of TV’s breakout hits that year, while the X-Files was, to the extent it was covered, predicted for an early grave. We know how that went.

    Probably had to do with the shows’ titles. “Brisco County Jr” sound like a western (or a show about a country singer who doubles as a NASCAR driver) and westerns haven’t had much popularity for a while.

    “The X Files” on the other hand is intriguing and to the point. It sounds like a supernatural/horror/suspense show.
