Deal(s) of the Day: Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection

Chances are if you are interested in this sort of thing, you already own the set or (as do I) at least some of the films separately.  If not, then you’re in for a treat.

For $51 (58% off list), you get 14 (!) films on 15 discs, along with tons of documentaries and other extras. The films include Saboteur (1942), Shadow of a Doubt (1943), Rope (1948), Rear Window (1954), The Trouble With Harry (1955), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), Vertigo (1958), Psycho (1960), The Birds (1963), Marnie (1964), Torn Curtain (1966), Topaz (1969), Frenzy (1972), Family Plot (1976). That’s a crapload of great cinema there. By the way, if you haven’t seen Shadow of a Doubt, it’s terrific.

That’s just good stuff. And yes, $50 is a hunk, but that’s about $3.50 per movie. (Thanks to BeckoningChasm for the head’s up on this.)

Sale lasts through today.

Amazon is also selling the essential zombie flick Return of the Living Dead for $8.50, nearly 60% off list.

Also available for a very limited time is the Mystery Science Theater 3000, Vol. XVIII (Lost Continent / Crash of the Moons / The Beast of Yucca Flats / Jack Frost), for $39.50, or 34% off list. This a ‘gold box’ deal, and so won’t last long.

The Beat of Yucca Flats DVD is incredible, it has a great profile of Coleman Francis and a “making of” Beast of Yucca Flats – two things I never expected to see.

“The Cinematic Poet of Parking”; Mike Nelson should be an academic.

Bought the Hitchcock set when they featured it last year, a great buy!

  • Yes, I would definitely grab it if I didn’t already own about six of the movies from back when they were released separately: Shadow of A Doubt, Vertigo, Rear Window, Psycho, The Birds…those five films are easily worth $50 just by themselves.

Saboteur was a great movie…I may have to dig that one out again…

  • GalaxyJane

Um, it wasn’t so much that I hadn’t owned any of them so much as it was I hadn’t updated any of them to DVD.
