Open thread….

Well, folks, I’m out of here. Back in a week. Have fun, and feel free to post here, or over at the old Jabootu.com message board.

Oh, and here’s an Amazon link for anyone kind enough to use it. Keep an eye on those deals of the day. As for the book, $80 might seem like a lot (and it is), but this revised humongous hardcover edition of Bill Warren’s classic survey of ’50s sci-fi movies not only remains the best work on that well-trod topic, but to my mind the single finest work on genre movies ever. In other words, you would be hard pressed indeed to spend $80 on several books and end up getting as much for your money as this tome will provide. Seriously, most won’t elect to own a copy, but get one from your local library or something. It’s championship stuff.

    Open thread! W00t!

I think we should take this time to examine the often overlooked comedic genius of the Barbarian Brothers. Twin Sitters, Think Big, Double Trouble, The Barbarians… all great films.

Let’s talk about how the Open Thread is under the “Reviews” section. I bet a monster made that happen!

Here’s an open thread thought: could Ernest Goes to Camp have been intended as a spoof of Billy Jack? Kids, Indians, Redneck Capitalists, our denhem-clad hero being beat to a pulp by a gang of racist white guys… And seeing Worrell actually take physical damage for the only time in his career gives the whole thing a weird vibe anyway. I haven’t seen the film in years, but the idea struck me one day. Do you suppose the writers were having some fun with the Billy Jack setup? An amusing notion, is it not?

IMDB has redesigned their pages again, and it’s even worse than it was…just like the last time they redesigned everything. I’ll give them this: they’re consistent.

Never mind, it just seems to be me, using Firefox, on my netbook.

I finally got to see Five Million Years to Earth again. And at the risk of being kicked out of here, I found it rather over-rated. Oh, it was a good movie, but hardly the essential classic I’d been told about.

Might’ve helped (for me) if they’d brought Brian Donlevy back for a third go.

Amazon deal of the day on the Harryhausen Blu-Ray boxed set. $50 for four great Dynamation films.
