The Room!

I recently wrote about The Room, as it appeared at B-Fest. Anyone in the Chicagoland area may be interested to learn that the film is playing at Chicago’s historic Music Box Theatre this Friday night (8:30 and 11:00), and that it will be accompanied by a personal appearance by the film’s writer / star / director, Tommy Wiseau. I note they are marketing the film as a “black comedy,” but unless Wiseau is the greatest satiric genius working in film today, that’s crap. The movie just sucks.

In a pretty entertaining way, though.

I can’t imagine what it feels like to be someone like Wiseau. He must realise people are laughing at the film because it’s so bad but goes through the motions of thinking that his film is good. Is he crazy, clueless or brilliant? Has he gone into the black with the film yet? I guess that would be a pretty good motivation to play the fool.

  • Anyone catch the Rifftrax for it yet. I really think that one matches up to MST3K levels of funny.
(There they are officer! The men who were showing porn to my nana!)

I’m too technologically challenged for non-DVD Rifftrax. It would be great if Wiseau needed the money enough to release the film on DVD with the Rifftrax commentary.

His bobble-head is fairly mocking, in my opinion, so he must have a good sense of humor about it all.

Can’t buy it. If you’re going for comedy you want overripe, scenery-chewing performances from everybody. In particular you’d want your devious adulteress to be vamping it up like crazy, wouldn’t you? You know, like Wild Things? You don’t want her to sound like she’s seconds from overdosing on Thorazine–in every single scene.

  • I agree. If he’s actually smart enough to turn out THIS film as satire he’s perhaps the greatest comedic genius working in film today.

I’ve seen a lot of bad movies, and a lot of parodies of bad movies, and if he fooled me that completely, well, my hat’s off to him.

have heard from a few people who went to screenings of The Room where he made appearences after, and said he was clueless to the fact that everybody was laughing at him not with him. They said he seemed like a nice guy just very very clueless in a very hollywood way if you get the meaning.

So… When he takes of his glasses and shakes his hair out he turns into a beautiful woman?
