Monday morning movie thread (4/20/09)…

Didn’t see anything at the movies this weekend. You? Anybody see the incredibly insane looking Crank 2, or (if it’s still out) Dragonball Z movie?

I stayed home and watched a classic film series:

    Troll 2
    Anaconda 3
    Superman 4

    And bonus Krrish.

I suspect that all four were better than Dragonball Z.

Want to see Crank 2 but the g/f is decidedly NOT into it. my have to wait on the DVD. OTOH, we and her youngster went to see Monsters vs. Aliens and were totally entertained. In 3d the eye candy factor is off the charts, the voice talent is A list and it’s pretty funny. Also there’s a lot of classic B/monster movie references as well as a general Dr. Strangelove vibe for older movie buffs. They tend to play the “eeeeeeevil military” more for post-modern laughs.

It not a movie but I watched Ken Burns’ Civil War over the weekend. I can’t get then damn theme song out of my head now.

The last time I went to the theatre, it was to see THe Dark Knight. Haven’t really been tempted to go again.

Seeing a film in the theatre is the best possible movie experience. But the negatives are really starting to outweigh the positives–especially since home video or Netflix means I can see it when I want, under the circumstances I want to, if I have a little patience.

Being a Chicago Sports Nut, I stayed home for most of the weekend & watched Da Bulls(Sorry Celtic Fans), Blackhawks, Sox, & Cubs win alot of games.

I noticed Crank 2’s low box office & I think Hollywood producers have to realize that Jason Statham is not the next Stallone/Arnold & his type of action movies went out of style back in the 90’s.

The next time I’m going to the theater is to check out Star Trek.

  • C’mon, ken. You didn’t see Hannah Montana: The Movie? You can tell us. We’re all friends here.

My son actually went to see it with a couple of girls. Afterwards, while he was still reeling, they wanted to watch Twilight with him, but his Y chromosome started to cry out in pain and he fled back home, where we watched the Three Stooges till dawn.

Saw the Dragonball movie with some friends. I never really got the show as a kid, but I thought the movie was fun, albeit incredibly stupid. I’d maybe compare it to Mortal Kombat, but not as good.

I’ve heard complaints that the plot was incomprehensible, but it seems the standard “collect the X plot devices to achieve Y goal” plot from a lot of 80s movies (that nowadays is more of a video game thing)

“Dumb fun” is what I got out of that trailer for DBZ:E and it looks like I was right. Although the guy playing Goku does nothing for me.
