Monster of the Day #3249

Last Friday’s Watch Party subject was The Killer Shrews, and needless to say it provided a very good time. I find the poster a little weird. Giant Claw, there’s a movie where you understand why they kept the monster’s face off the poster. Meanwhile, although the barely disguised nature of the shrews as dogs is quite evident, the shrew mask are actually pretty scary and could easily have been painted into something quite menacing. Anyway, the double bill of this and Giant Gila Monster still represent to me the pinnacle of drive-in movie culture.

Next Watch Party a week from Friday.

I think Rook should have wore sensible shoes.

  • I’ve found it’s improved with each viewing. More so than it’s partner, which remains just as dull in its first viewing as its last.

    Or found a bigger tree.

Really guys, Ken is going easy on us. Both this and ‘Konga’ were pretty good movies.

I’m worried he’s luring us into a sense of complacency then he’ll hit us with something else along the lines of ‘Grizzly II’ or ‘Alabama’s Ghost’ …

Bigger tree? He faced it all his life.

  • So long as it isn’t another The Boy and the Pirates we should be okay.

Have you seen Grizzly II? Is it as bad as the horrified whispers say?

  • Gamera977

Isn’t it the killer bear movie Ken ran about a month ago? The one with John Rhys-Davies as the French Canadian trapper with a very dubious accent?

And yes, it’s horrible as a movie that’s pieced together from modern and forty year old footage can be (assuming that this is the right film).

The story behind the making of “Grizzly II” would make a far more entertaining film.

  • It’s bad, but not Alabama’s Ghost bad.

    Few things are.

Though I did like it better the Grizzly 2

I recall that they shot in Hungary back when it was still Communist, and that the planned film site was a Red Army training base? Something too about how the Hungarian Secret Police got annoyed when 40,000-50,000 teenagers showed up for the ‘concert’ and ready to party hearty. That must have been a heck of a story in its own right.

Galaxy Jane shared an article about the making of the film…alas, we can’t post URLs here and I’ve long since lost the link anyway.

The only thing I enjoyed in Grizzly 2 was John Rhys-Davies and his accent.
