Slasher remake trailers…

Not my bag, but the 3D angle makes the first look amusing, and neither looks to disappoint the gorehound base. Also note the similarities in the trailers, such as the dark lighting and flashlights, etc.Friday The 13th in HD

Ugh, Michael Bay. Boy, it’s weird to see Jason almost running. He hasn’t moved that fast in years.

  • Yes, following in the wake of super-fast zombies. Can’t let that attention span flag.

Well, I’m glad to see they used Jason’s little musical motif, honestly.

I recently saw the first Friday the 13th for the first time. Man, it’s barely a movie. I can’t imagine what would inspire anyone to make the first version, let alone a remake.

(Well, yes, I can imagine sheer unadulterated greed.)

I have to agree on it being nice to hear the music. I always found that little riff to be nicely chilling.

Not sure how I feel about a fast Jason, though. Wasn’t part of the horror the fact that he was a relentless force of nature? It didn’t matter how fast or how far you ran, he would eventually wear you down through sheer doggedness (and off-screen teleportation).

For some reason, I had less of a problem with fast zombies. Then again, that may be because zombies aren’t a single person’s creation. Variants of all kinds exist, we’re just used to Romero’s concept. Jason, being a unique entity (more or less), should be more bound by his “rules”.

Jason did run in his early films, and since this is remake of the early stuff, it makes sense for him to run. I think he only became slow in part 6, when he was officially supernatural (having been brought back from the dead).

And this isn’t strictly a remake of the first film; he wasn’t in part one, and didn’t get his mask till part three. This is sort of a mix of the early films…

I gotta say; I have no love for F13, and I’m sure the remake will be a soulless cavern of anti-talent, but that was a pretty good trailer. I especially liked the voiceover by Mrs. V. I think it’s a very good example of how to do a remake trailer; steadily make it more and more clear where you’ve seen this before and let the familiarity breed excitment (or distaste, or disbelief at the sheer, undisguised greed that drives this francise).

The lines said in the trailer are directly from the first film (in which Mrs. V is actually the killer). Not necessarily in that order, but all the lines are from there. I’m pretty sure it’s the new Mrs. Voorhees (in the original, the “he should have been watched every minute” is said with a bit more intensity) saying the lines.
And I agree, the voice-over is really the best part of the trailer. ^_^
