Monster of the Day #3260

I’m pretty sure if you were sitting that close to a klieg light you’d want to be shot.

Anyway, happy Friday, everyone! Watch something stupid this weekend.

Huh. I always wondered what Sgt. Benton did before joining UNIT.

    ‘CONFESS!!!’

‘Confess, you told Frank you had a BONE to pick with him!’

‘Confess, that after her latest diet you told Helen she was just skin and BONES!’

‘Confess, you griped after the last election that the DEAD had showed up to vote!’

‘Confess, that you’re intolerant and bigoted against all people BIOLOGICALLY CHALLENGED LIKE MYSELF!!!’

Not something stupid but it might be worth a look: ‘Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum’. Rented it though Amazon the other night, pretty good film. Korean movie about a group of paranormal investigators (think the Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures) that go poking around an abandoned asylum and get more than they bargained for.

I’ve seen several films with this same basic storyline but this was one of the better ones. Likable characters and it’s hard not to get into the creepy mood with people poking around an abandoned building with only flashlights for visibility. And it’s only an hour and half so it doesn’t push the atmosphere past the breaking point.

Plus it’s a great example of how to make an effective horror movie on a tiny budget. For example they showed a bunch of photos of the hospital’s last administrator playing ping-pong. Then near the climax a ping-pong ball comes bouncing into the room and everyone loses it. Lots of chills for the price of a couple of aged photos and a stagehand tossing a ping-pong ball onto the set!

  • I’m going to a Renn Faire (MDRF, despite my better judgement, but meeting family), so I guarantee I will see enough stupid and just plain weird to last all week.

Oooh, is it as good as Halloween Resurrection?

  • Ken_Begg

OHMYGAWD I HOPE YE WILL ALL BE WEARING YE OLDE FACE MASQUES.

  • Rodford Smith

Interesting how the victim is trussed up with processed movie film. Can’t see what movie it is, though. :-)

  • Eric Hinkle

I’m astounded to hear that some horror directors still understand how well the subtle touch can work in modern film.

  • Eric Hinkle

I hope you don’t get too weirded out and have some fun!

  • Nope. I mean it’s the People’s Republic of Maryland, but even they knew they wouldn’t be able to get 10K+ (veteran-heavy given the location) drunks to do that at a primarily outside event. They were “encouraged” but I saw very few folks hanging out the old Virtue Symbol.

A very few vendors required them, so if they were enforcing the rule I didn’t do business, but most were too busy trying to make money to bother with nonsense.

The stupidest thing I saw was a woman in a skin-tight silver spandex astronaut outfit. She was the general shape that reminded me that (as an old Faire buddy once opined to me) “Spandex is a privilege, not a right”.

I mean, I was in a mini-kilt, but I have feckin’ amazing legs and it was my actual Tartan.

No furries the time, but a few folks that were probably Anime characters. TBH the mundane percentage was a lot higher that I am used to seeing at that event and even most of the folks that garbed, kind of half-assed it (myself included, I topped off my already not-period-appropriate ensemble with my favorite “Disorderly Veteran” hat and wrap-around shades).

Sorry haven’t seen Halloween Resurrection so I can’t compare. And my apologies, I don’t mean to gush- I’ve seen so many gawdawful modern movies it’s just nice to see one that’s friggin’ competent.

  • Gamera977

Everyone wear a plague doctor mask!!!

  • Ken_Begg

Ha, I know exactly what you mean. Gush away.
