RIP Cyd Charisse

Damn, too many deaths lately.

The beauteous, jaw-droppingly sexy and astoundingly talented dancer Cyd Charisse has passed away at the age of 86. Ms. Charisse starred in several films, but her most famous appearances were her guest appearances in the ballet sequences of the arguably Hollywood’s two greatest classic musicals, Singin’ in the Rain (she’s the moll who tempts Gene Kelly during his amazing, 15 minute “Gotta Dance” number) and The Band Wagon (the Mickey Spillaine fantasia opposite Fred Astaire). She also starred opposite Kelly in Brigadoon.

So few people from that magnificent era remain. I’ve seen both Band Wagon and (especially) Singin’ in the Rain many, many times. Thank you, Ms. Charisse, for all the entertainment over the years. You will be missed, but your legacy will live forever.

Check her out opposite Gene Kelly in “It’s Always Fair Weather” as well. Good stuff. She will be missed.

She was married to the same guy for 60 years, pretty unusual for Hollywood.
