This week on DVD (11/06/07)…

Note:  The Amazon links included below can be used for convenience sake, and to get further product details.  Feel free, of course, to use the links to order through; it sends a few bucks my way.  However, Amazon DOES NOT always have the best price (although sometimes they do, too, especially when you factor in the free shipping with over $25 orders).  Check at DVDpricesearch.com first to find the best price for any particular item.

Just time for a few notices:

The 3rd season of the revamped Doctor Who.  I had my problems with the 2nd season, as some may recall, so it’ll be interesting to see where things went from there.

This BBC adaptation of Day of the Triffids is exactly what you’d expect from early ’80s Brit TV.  In other words, the budget is low, the special effects sparse, but the show is very smart and gets into the meat of the novel in a way that the ’60s film version didn’t even attempt.  Well worth a look.

Dinosaurs vs. Giant Apes gives you two popular monster movie documentaries, Dinosaur Movies and Hollywood Goes Ape!  Good stuff.

Eraserhead/Short Films of David Lynch Collection.

Future Zone Hey, at least crappy movies back in the day had actors like Charles Napier and David Carradine, instead of Steven Baldwin.

James Bond Ultimate Collection — All 21 Bond movies (!) on 42 discs with a zillion tons of extras.  A nice set if you haven’t bought any of the separately.

Speaking of monster sets, here’s the Seinfeld the Complete Series set, all 9 seasons on 33 discs.

Kung Fu the Complete Series is also now available, as are X-Files (61 discs!) and Wonder Woman.  I remember way back early in the DVD thing, when they listed the early seasons of X-Files for $150 a season.  Now $250 gets you over sixty discs worth of stuff.

  • Dan Coyle In Real Life

I can definitely say that S3 of WHO is a marked improvement over S2, with the exception of the goofy “Daleks in Manhattan” two parter.
