Monster of the Day #876

Saw this over the weekend, a very fun Irish film in the mold of Tremors. I can highly recommend it as a rare, fully successful modern day monster movie.

Oh, is this that one where they have to stay perpetually drunk? Someone remember the name for me — this needs to go on my Netflix queue!

It was better than I expected, and is worth a watch. It’s a clever writer who can take a cliche like the drunken Irish copper and make an entertaining monster movie out of it. Speaking of cliches, the only thing I didn’t care for was the inevitable romantic triangle, and redemption of the hero because he’s a good guy who only drinks to mask his pain blah, blah, blah. I think they should have gone full guns with it; he drinks because he loves his whiskey, he was raised with whiskey in his baby bottle, and he’ll die with a whiskey in his hand! Also, some of the actors play a more, um, convincing drunk than others. If you know what I’m saying.

I usually have to be drunk to see something like that.

  • The Rev.

I just heard of that one last week, but cannot recall the title.

    The monster’s fantastic-looking. I assume it’s CG?

Comparing it to Tremors pretty much guarantees I’m watching it ASAP. Oddly enough, I found myself thinking of it last night for whatever reason, and ended up watching it again!

    GRABBERS!
That’s the title. Looks interesting, I’ll say, lad. Then I’ll have some Whiskey.

    Drunken Irishmen…. lovely…

Do they shoot the monster to death with a potato gun???

I got something that looked like this in a box of Cap’n Crunch when I was a kid. I still have no idea what it was supposed to be.

    Grabbers?
