Pleased with new Doctor Who…

OK, I’m way behind on the show (I’ve seen basically nothing of the Matt Smith years), and I was going to make a Justin Beiber joke. However, I’ll just instead say I’m very pleased to see the Doctor age a bit rather than grow ever younger and dreamier. Here’s to a long, long run for the new Doctor, hopefully one who won’t be snogging his companions all the time.

    I’m happy with the choice.

He actually strikes me as looking a bit like an older David Tennant, so there is some continuity there. Of course, this is a character who went from Patrick Troughton to John Pertwee, so….

So he’s the twelfth Doctor? Haven’t seen the show since Tennant was the Doc. I too like the fact he does look a little older and more mature.

  • Rock Baker

I watch the series sporadically. My brother is a fan so I eventually get to see these things when he picks up the latest disk set.

Smith is a young fella, but I have to admit I’ve enjoyed his run as the Doctor a lot more than the last few guys. He really plays back to the earlier versions of Doctor Who. With Smith, I finally cared as much about the character as I did the adventures (as concerning these newer shows, I didn’t have that problem with Tom Baker and the like). I kinda hate to see him go.

Smith has been fantastic, but I am really pleased that they picked an actor who is old enough to have been (and who has been) a fan since the 1963 beginning. The Doctor should be avuncular, at least sometimes.

I wasn’t expecting to like him but Smith turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Part of it was no doubt due to new producer Steven Moffat ditching the soap opera mopiness that plagued the Russell Davies doctors. Having a a 900 year old alien pining over a teenager was just wrong on so many levels.

Yes, he’s a Time Lord, not a vampire!
