Monster of the Day #700

700! Who knew?

  • Flangepart

Ah, Japan. No one does nightmare fuel like you do.

  • Ericb

Ok, this was when they started hitting the bong.

  • Cullen Waters

Man, the monster on the left looks really happy to be there.

I’m going to make a quick confession here: I’ve always been more of a Spectreman guy than Ultraman. But these captures, combined with the few early Ultraman shows I’ve seen in (relatively) recent years have shown me I’ve been really missing out.

    OK, everybody ready? And…. Cheeee-ese!!!!

  • 80, one of my faves.

I wonder if the one on the right has three stomachs as well ?

  • Flangepart

What scares me…it might be female. Wouldn’t wanna hug that!

  • I really grooved on Megaloman, although the show was never dubbed so I really had no idea what was going on half the time. Granted, I was mostly glued to the set because of the girl and her snug uniform….

  • That’s a level of weird hard to describe without charts and graphs. An Ultraman, what looks like a hamburger chain mascot, and an ALIEN rip-off creature…. It’s all so random! The only thing missing is a mermaid and a giant singing cowboy!

Minazma and Plazma here look like rejects from “Zone Fighter.” Okay, the former could probably pass as an Ultra-monster, but the latter is very “ZF.” Plazma’s also less creepy from the side, where you can see it has eyes. From the front, though, nightmare city.

These two actually turned out to be pretty tough customers; Ultrawoman Yurian luckily revealed herself in the nick of time to save 80’s ass. Outside of Mother of Ultra, you don’t see too many female Ultras. Even fewer take an active role in combat, which makes her pretty unique in the canon.

Wow, I was completely unfamiliar with “Megaloman” prior to your mentioning it.

Great, another show I want to see.
