Monster of the Day #521

An interesting cross-cultural experiment. Toho made 3 of these, and I’ve always found it sort of weird that no one ever did a box DVD release here. Seems like something that would sell.

Now with brighter whites! Your vampires will positively glow with new ‘Oxi-Vamp!’

  • The Rev.

I read about these long ago in a G-Fan mag.  They sounded interesting, if not always exactly good.

    Data the android vampire???

  • Oh yeah! I forgot about these movies. I’d love to see them, but they remain hopelessly obscure. Yeah, where’s a box set?!!!

Presumably one of them is Lake of Dracula.  I didn’t know there were others.

One is unconnected, as far as I know, and called Vampire Doll. I don’t think it features Dracula, although I won’t swear to it. The other two are Lake of Dracula and Evil of Dracula.

  • These did get American release back in the 70’s, didn’t they?

  • The Rev.

Apparently there was once a limited edition box set of those two and Legacy of Dracula, which I assume is the third one, according to Amazon UK.  It seems like that third one is more of a ghost story.

Boy does that sound like a Bob Dylan song.  “But when Data the Android Vampire gets here, everybody’ll jump for joy.”

One of those films, the second, received a US release some years back on Paramount Home Video (VHS, EP mode.)

Plotwise, the most peculiar aspect of it was the fact that the vampires had a penchant for biting their female victims on the breasts rather than their necks.

Still, it wasn’t a bad movie overall.  It was nicely atmospheric and even creepy at times. Certainly well worth checking out.
