Monster of the Day #392

It can be hard to get good stills from Kolchak episodes–especially since I’m too lazy to break out my DVDs and do it myself–because the show wisely kept it’s shoddier monsters both elliptically seen and in the shadows as much as possible.

This fine fellow briefly appeared in what is generally considered the program’s best episode.

The Hindu monster that killed Holocaust survivors and the Indian guy who used swastikas to try to protect them?  So many layers to that one … good stuff.

Gee, I’m going to have to get my paws on the Kolchak DVDs. I’ve seen one or two episodes but never really got into it. Should have given the show more of a chance- this is some cool stuff!

    OOoh  Raksasha!  Yay!
    Thanks, Ken!
/I need to get my hands on the DVDs…

I just reserved a set, so hopefully I’ll be watching them next week.

Darren McGavin fans might be interested in a Christmas themed episode of Chris Carter’s Millennium series (carter being a Kolchak fan, natch). He gives a memorable and moving performance as Frank Black’s father in the excellent second season ep “Midnight of the Century”- it’s annual viewing in my place this time of year, and it still gets me at the end.

It’s hell learning that you actually do trust someone, isn’t it Carl?

    Anybody watch the remake ?
