SALE OVER!

Amazon is today only offering both five disc collections of the marvelous films of WC Fields. For some reason Fields isn’t that well known today (I think because for some reason his films haven’t played much on TV since the ’70s), but he’s right up there with the Marx Brothers and Laurel & Hardy as one of the greatest film comedians ever. Both sets are available today for $26.50, 56% off the list price, and automatically are eligible for free shipping.

Titles includes such classics as The Bank Dick, My Little Chickadee, Man on the Flying Trapeze, Its’ a Gift, Never Give a Sucker an Even Break and You Can’t Cheat An Honest Man. And the all-star International House (Bela Lugosi is in it) is a trip.

Seriously, even if you don’t want to buy the sets, rent some of these movies. They’re essential stuff.

If I didn’t already own both, I’d buy them right away. Actually, they might make great gifts for, um, Valentines Day.

I’d say most of us have at least a passing knowledge of W. C. Fields, thanks mostly to so many old cartoons doing gags based on him. Just like Hugh Herbert, except I’d say the average man on the street (even if he’s not a movie fan) is more likely to know Fields’ name.
