New Music Box schedule up…

The new quarterly schedule for Chicago’s gorgeous, historical Music Box Theatre, perhaps the city’s premiere art theater, is up. Sadly, I’m less interested in their new stuff than their now comparatively rare revival stuff, but there’s still some must see attractions.

TCM will host a showing of North by Northwest at the Music Box on March 30th. Robert Osbourne and Eve Marie Saint will be there.

Saturday, April 10th sees the fourth annual Sci-Fi Spectacular. They don’t have an official roster up yet, but the poster art indicates that Them!, They Live, Planet of the Vampires, Q (Larry Cohen will make a live appearance at the fest) and Flash Gordon will be showing. The program runs from noon to 2 am. More as details arise.

April 16th sees a revival of Ran, with a newly struck 35mm print. Man, haven’t seen that in a theater in way too long a time.

Good Midnight Movies coming up include UHF, The Room and The Evil Dead.

More details can be found at www.musicboxtheatre.com. Look to the right for the “download spring schedule” link.

Wait, UHF is considered a midnight movie? I thought you had to have some phenomenally weird plot or abhorrent violence to be a midnight movie.

  • Charles Fulton

Ran is definitely a big enough lure to bring me to Chicago.

  • THAT…would be awesome.

We could follow it up by watching Santo vs. the Martians.

  • Nope, just general weirdness.

I saw RAN in a double feature with AMADEUS. Five- and- a- half Hours ! My behind was screaming for release from the torture of sitting on a theatre seat by the four-hour mark. Both good movies, but there’s a limit to what the human body can endure.

Ken, you got to have a better lure than Pia Zadora for me, son!

Okay, so maybe I would come for Ran. But you better come correct in the afterparty.

(BTW we just had one of our former profs over for drinks and HE KNEW ABOUT HARD TICKET TO HAWAII. Aaaaa-mazing.)
