My Pals at the Portage…

This is new.  ‘Big’ John, owner of Time Tunnel Toys here in Chicago, runs a monthly horror/sci-fi bill at the Portage Theater every month.  Now they’ve started posting videos (I assume this will be a regular thing) announcing this month’s line-up. This is a great idea.

Paul, the guy with him, is a friend of mine.  He works at the same library I do, in the maintenance department, and is a model builder of some talent as well as another old time monster movie buff.

In January, I know, they’re going out whole hog and showing four and maybe possibly even five old Universal classics–I remember Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man and The Mummy’s Hand.  (Advance line-up tentative.) I was fabulously excited about this, until it hit me that they were likely running these the same night as B-Fest.  And, of course, they are.  D’oh! Still, anyone in the area who can’t make B-Fest should check this out. Four or even five movies for ten bucks!!

Still, in March they will have a quadruple bill of Universal sci-fiers, including Monolith Monsters, Deadly Mantis and (yay!) The Land Unknown.  So I will definitely be there for that.

Anyway, check out the video.  It’s great that these guys are bringing the old movies back to theaters, if only for one night a month.
