New MST3K deluxe set…

Amazon is selling the brand spanking new, limited edition Mystery Science Theater 3000: XVI box set for $42, 35% off the $65 MSRP. The box features (appropriately enough) the old Jabootu classic Santa Claus–the Mexican one where Santa lives in outer space with Merlin and fights the Devil–The Corpse Vanishes (with Bela Lugosi), Warrior of the Lost World and Night of the Blood Beast.

If you manage to get one of the first pressings, you’ll get a Tom Servo figurine as part of the package. In terms of video extras, these include a new interview with Warrior Of The Lost World director David Worth; Santa Claus Conquers The Devil: A 50-Year Retrospective; Night Of The Blood Beast (Turkey Day Version); and the show’s Turkey Day 95 Intros. Also included are the films’ original theatrical trailers, and four exclusive MST3K mini posters by artist Steve Vance.

Warrior of the Lost World is one of my all time favorites- great riffing, great skits, and Megaweapon!

I was thinking of bringing some MST3K to our family Thanksgiving celebration this year, nostalgic for the days of the Turkey Day marathons, and I asked my 12 year old son to choose the ep. That’s the one he chose, and it went over amazingly well- just to be in a room full of people of all ages laughing and yelling at the screen was all that I had hoped it would be. It even got my nephews interested in the show.

This looks like a really cool set, what with all of those neato extras and all.

    Ah, The Corpse Vanishes.
“He injected her with ‘young and pretty’, now he should inject her with ‘smart and nice’…”

I kinda wish they had both versions of NotBB. Ah, well, I don’t have that one yet, so any version is an improvement. ^_^

Warriors of the Lost World, starring The Paper Chase Guy! Do you have any fruit to declare?!

I re-read your review of Santa Claus last night. Pretty funny. Here’s the interesting bit, though: As surprising as it may be, when this film was made, Santa Claus wasn’t very well known in Mexico (and he’s still not a big part of the holiday, apparently), hence the weird, mixed-up ideas about him in this film.

  • Just picked up the set today, so I’ll be out of communication while I watch them. Got it at Borders with an E-mail coupon.

  • Bruce Probst

FENM, you have misread the blurb. The Turkey Day version of NotBB is an extra. So the set includes both versions of the episode (apparently you can select which version to watch from the opening menu).

@Bruce Probst: Ohh, yes, I see that now. I thought it’d be a little odd for them not to use both versions.. Thanks for clarifying for me. Sometimes my brain no work so gud… ^_^

I received my copy today. Tom’s a little light but pretty well sculpted. Otherwise, I’m just happy to have a copy of Santa Claus that isn’t on VHS.

And side note: Volume XVII is due March 16th and includes The Crawling Eye, The Beatniks (w/General Hospital pt. 2), The Final Sacrifice and The Blood Waters of Dr. Z.

    Oh, and hey TCF. (waves)
