Oh, why doth thou hate me, ABC?

Seriously, ABC? You have to program The Goode Family to appear at 8:00 CST on Wednesdays, the same time as Mythbusters, which is currently the only show I watch on TV? What are the damn odds of that, you jerks?

No more Amazing Race, Bosom Buddies or Tyra?

According to my TiVO, the next episode airs twice on Wednesday night.

Don’t really so how this is that big a problem. It’s not like Mythbusters episodes don’t get repeated often. Also, given how disappointing The Goode Family’s ratings proved to be, there’s a good chance you won’t have to choose between the two shows for much longer.

Really? Damn. I kinda liked it.

  • Yeah, it’s a bad time slot, and the wrong network. And with Fox pretty much becoming The McFarland Network, I can’t imagine this migrating over there, where it would be a perfect King of the Hill replacement.

Amazing Race will be back on the roster when it returns this fall. And c’mon, Joe, you know I was a MUCH bigger Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo fan.

Another very bad sign for The Goode Family: ABC seems to have ceased advertising it.

As some of you know, I work master control at an ABC affiliate station. One of the tools of my trade is what’s referred to as a sponsor wire – a rundown of the order all the commercials and promos that air during network programming. I’ve been noticing since Thursday that every primetime promo slot listed as being a commercial for The Goode Family ends up being a promo for something entirely different. Usually that’s a surefire sign that ABC has no confidence in the show (see also: Cupid) and its days are numbered.

In The Goode Family’s case, I’m sure ABC looked at the debut ratings, took notice of how well its lead-in Wipeout did and how little of that audience The Goode Family failed to retain, and immediately placed the show on the endangered species list. ABC execs have proven to have itchy ax fingers.

That sounds kind of like what FOX did to Futurama, where they’d have the Big Sunday Lineup Commercial where they’d talk about every show but Futurama. As if the 6:00 – 6:30 time slot just didn’t exist.

It’s toast. Tanked ever worse in the ratings the other night. ABC is already running promos for a new summer replacement show set to debut in the Wed 8PM timeslot beginning the 17th. Either ABC is going to burn off the remaining episodes over the next two weeks or there will be word of it being yanked from the schedule entirely any moment now. Either way, say goodbye to The Goode Family.

  • If you miss The Goode Family episodes when they air, you can fortunately catch full episodes of The Goode Family on ABC.com.

Unfortunately, the search & navigation facilities on ABC’s own site are just abysmal. You can probably find episode links more easily through the much better search features at Fancast.com or Veoh.com. However, though I do most of my own TV viewing on Hulu.com, last I heard Hulu’s streams don’t count towards a show’s Nielsen ratings — only episodes streamed from the networks’ own websites do. For now, that means if you want to support a show through your online viewing, you’ll need to use the network’s offering.

Hopefully this will all change if ABC gets off their asses & gets some content going on to Hulu. CBS is still a wildcard in the deal, but ABC is reportedly buying in as a Hulu partner, and there’s buzz about CBS potentially licensing their content to Hulu as well.
